Seven Hills school regards Preparation for Adulthood (PFA) as important as academic achievements.  Through the Careers programme we aim to support each student on their own pathway towards adulthood.  The programme aims to support students (and their families) to make the most informed decision that they can about their future choices and career options.  This includes moving on to appropriate Post 16 options and transitioning into education or social care provision from Y11 onwards.

The Careers programme at Seven Hills school comprises of a varied education programme and independent advice and guidance to effectively meet the wide range of needs for our learners. The programme is constantly reviewed and is adapted to provide the necessary support for all groups of learners.

The Careers Programme is validated and reviewed annually using the  Compass evaluation tool which directly assesses progress against the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Our Careers education is provided through:

  • Subject lessons  – A curriculum offer that develops life and employability skills from Y9-Y14. This includes learning about application processes, work experience opportunities, Enterprise projects and employability skills.
  • Life skills lessons – A curriculum that supports students to learn transferrable life skills.
  • Tutorials – discussions about specific employability skills and job processes
  • Student support workers – opportunities to carry out jobs within the wider school environment
  • Careers Day- Internal careers days to connect students and employers from within the locality

Information, Advice & Guidance is provided through:

  • Annual Review Process – As part of the annual review process all students from Y9 discuss their future pathways and have impartial advice from a Sheffield Futures representative present within the review.
  • Coffee mornings – an opportunity for parents and carers from Y9 onwards to learn about the different pathways for Post 16 provision
  • Market Place Event – each year there local service providers are invited to school to provide information on what is available to students for Y7 onwards.  This includes what is available at weekends and during holidays, and what is available to students from Y11 onwards.
  • Transition visits to local colleges and social care providers
